The 2009 season has seen many changes for Team Lumley and, by some stroke of luck, most have been for the better! We now have the permanent team line up of Richard Lumley (driver) and Paul Skinner (passenger) alongside Paul Lumley (driver) and Kat Renwick (passenger). Both race machines were lovingly built by Paul Lumley and son, Richard and we are very pleased to announce that they performed admirably! Everything has been built from the ground up at our HQ, Lumley Engineering Ltd., even down to the custom fairings. No small feat but worth it in the end. With Paul Lumley only enlisting Kat as passenger at the tail end of the 2009 season, the championship battle was left in the gloved hands of Richard and Paul, who fought it well. The boys managed to achieve 3rd place in the overall North Gloucester F2 standings – not too bad when you consider the missed meetings resulting from Richard trying to modify his road bike with nothing more than tarmac, curbstones and a generous amount of flesh! Thankfully he bounces well and made a full recovery, allowing them to continue with the season – even leading some of the races for a few laps. Our biggest thanks must be bestowed upon Karl and Wendy Pring of KCP Environmental Ltd. Without their sponsorship, this season would have been a much more dismal affair. Their generosity has brought to the team a shiny new race truck with graphics, diesel and many, many slabs of delicious square sausage – a true Scottish delight! (Honestly, it may look grim but you’ve got to try it). We would also like to thank our new catering manager, Kate who has proved herself invaluable. It would be difficult to name all of you who have helped us along the way but thank you all – you know who you are. Anybody who has even the vaguest interest in sidecars will be aware of just how costly the sport is, especially when you are designing and building your own bikes. For this reason we would like to appeal to any of you who would like to become involved in the sport by means of team sponsorship. Every little helps (according to Tesco) and so all sponsorship would be gratefully received. For example, a set of dry race tyres will cost on average £600 and a wet set (very handy for our beloved British weather!) will be even more; and that’s just to get rubber on the bikes! If you think that you could help in any way at all, please contact the boys at Lumley Engineering Ltd on 07814 615275. To ensure that Richard and Paul have a fighting chance in their future national escapades (on that shrine to motorcycling, the Isle of Mann) a great deal of time, effort and money will need to be spent. All this goes alongside what preparation is required for combined North Gloucester and British F2 Championship seasons in 2010. Paul and Kat will be concentrating on the 2010 North Gloucester F2 championship in a bid to rid Kat of her ever attractive novice vest and then on to gaining a national licence. This may even entail a little bit of ‘moonlighting’ at other club’s events – points really do mean prizes! Lastly, we would like to congratulate everyone at North Gloucester Road Race Club for their efforts this year. Without these very hard working people none of us would have been able to achieve what we have done. Thank you. Here’s to a successful 2010 – let’s make sidecars the main event this coming season! Good luck ladies and gentlemen – let battle commence. |
